Working on writing is essential but I also like that you advise to read as well. Reading books can help, but if you're a full time blogger, or just a blogger in general, reading other blogs and seeing what kind of content is out there created by others in your niche it can really help you find out the kind of blogger you want to be and the persona you want to harness. I really like you're take on being confident in our own abilities and I think its often what holds us back from fully committing.

This post really hit some buttons, that's for sure. I think the belief in yourself & your skills can be a real drawback. I'm a novelist, so making the change to a writer who blogs about writing is definitely a learning curve. But you hit the nail on the head when you said to make it a priority and do it everyday. We can have lots of plans and ideas... But we also need to step back and ask ourselves, " Do we have the guts to execute them well?" (Pretty much guilty about knowing too much, and planning ahead yet failed to take the right actions.)

One of my friends who are in publishing remarked that a difficulty nowadays is what once used to be only done for pay is now given away for free via blogging. So the written word seems to be judged differently.

It's interested that you talk about developing writing skills - I have been working on developing my artistic and drawing skills in a similar fashion. My journal that I started last week, however, seems to get an entry once a week instead of once a day. Better than not at all, I suppose.

One of my blogging goals this year is to be more careful with preplanning my calendar and sticking to it. This is important both for making sure I publish new online content at regular intervals, but particularly for making sure I anticipate events with well researched articles posted in advance (there isn't much point posting a New Years Day recipe post on New Years Day after the grocery stores are closed, fore instance).

I understand sometimes not feeling confident in your writing abilities, I think that many writer go threw this. I am glad that you have decided to focus on your one thing. I find that consistency sometimes is my weakness, I am working hard this year to be more consistent. When I get busy or just burned out my blogging tends to take a backseat. I am working to overcome this this year.
